Castle Brake Holiday Park

Introduction

Ladram Bay is a coastal resort situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is surrounded by hills and has its own private beach. The nearest public transport is approx half a mile away. The majority of facilities are situated on reasonably flat level areas as are the static holiday homes for hire. Camping and Touring Caravan areas are located on level rising tiers that may not be suitable for persons with mobility problems without some form of mechanical transport.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

A private road brings you down a steep hill with a controlled public car park at the bottom on the left. We operate a 10mph. speed restriction throughout the park. All Static Holiday Homes allow for a car to be parked to the door side of the unit. There is a 5 Meter width between units and a minimum of 10 Meters length.  All Tent and Touring Caravan Pitches allow for 1 vehicle to be parked alongside. Extra vehicles must be left in the Public Car Park. Windscreen stickers are issued to all guests for security and control of our parking facilities.

Main Entrance & Reception

The main entrance to the park is via a private road leading off from a narrow country lane. It is very clearly sign posted. This road leads you down to the park (approximately 500 meters). Reception is situated opposite the public car park and at the entrance to the Static Holiday Home Hire Fleet. There are a limited number of spaces for cars to park outside the main reception including  Disabled Parking Bays for Blue Badge Holders. Entrance to reception is up a shallow ramp and through a set of double swinging doors 1.5 meters wide. The area inside, approximately 3 meters by 10 meters, is level and fully carpeted with seating and a large selection of information pamphlets on places of interest and tourist attractions in the South West.

A long counter 1 meter high and 7 meters long allows 2 or 3 guests to conduct their booking in process at the same time, this process takes only a few minutes and all guests are handed a welcome pack along with their keys, car stickers and directions.

During the main holiday season Reception is open from 8.00am until 8.00pm. An out of hours contact telephone number is posted on a notice board in the reception window.

There is a small building at the entrance to the car park which doubles up as a Security Staff Office after 8.00pm.

Public Areas – General

Tarmac Roads service all areas of the park which consists of 7 Fields containing Static Caravans, 3 Fields for Camping and Touring Caravans, 2 Sports/Recreational Field, a Shopping and Café square plus a cliff top area housing an Entertainment complex, Indoor Heated Swimming Pool and an outdoor Children’s Adventure Play Park.  

The shingle beach is accessed via a concrete slipway approximately 3 Meters wide. Due to the steepness of the incline, it is unsuitable for wheel chair access or for persons with mobility problems. Vehicles access is allowed but only for dropping off and picking up, car parking is strictly prohibited at both the top and bottom of the Slipway. There are no toilets on the beach but are planned for in the future. There are benches provided in all facility areas except the beach.

Public Areas – WC

The Park has a small Public Toilet Block at the top of the slipway which is not suitable for a disabled person.

The entertainment complex is situated 300 meters from Reception along a tarmac road suitable for vehicles, pedestrians and wheel chair users. The ground floor, The 3 Rocks Inn, has public toilets and a separate Disabled toilet/Baby changing facility. The first floor contains a large amusement arcade and Pebbles Restaurant; it can be accessed via a lift from the ground floor and also via a level metal walkway 1.5 meters wide from the outside children’s adventure play park. There are more public toilets on this floor with a separate Disabled Toilet / Baby changing facility.

 Holiday Homes

There are 105 Static Caravan Holiday Homes available for rent, all are 12 foot wide models and vary between 2 and 3 bedroom models. All holiday of our homes are modern and spacious, no home is older than 4 years.

Of the 105, all but 2 are accessed via metal 2 or 3 rung steps 1 meter wide with hand rails. The entrance door widths are a minimum of 705mm, all interior doors and corridors will not service a wheelchair. Our brochure and web site give further details on equipment levels and position.

The remaining 2 Holiday Homes have 2 bedrooms and are designed for wheel chair users and people with special needs. Access is via a purpose made ramp to the entrance door which is 850mm wide, all interior doors and corridors are wide enough for wheel chair users. Both homes feature large shower areas with recessed tray for level entry, support rails fitted in the shower and toilet areas, single lever mixer taps in the kitchen and shower room as well as low level (800mm) gas cookers and work top areas in the kitchen. 1 of the homes also has moveable trapeze lift handles in the twin bedded main bedroom. Holiday Apartments

The 3 Holiday Apartments are situated just inside the F, Orchard Field and are on the first floor level of a new amenities building. They are accessed via outdoor stairs and are not suitable for wheel chair users or persons with mobility problems. Car parking is situated approximately 30 meters away in bespoke bays.

Touring Park Amenities

There are 2 amenity blocks to service the Camping and Touring Caravan Pitches, both have toilets, free hot shower facilities and wash basins. 1 Block has a Disabled cubicle containing a toilet, wash hand basin, level entry shower and baby changing facility in both the ladie’s and the gentleman’s side. The other block has a separate outdoor entrance to a disabled toilet/wash hand basin/level entry shower and baby changing facility.

Both blocks are situated on level tiers but do involve a steep incline on tarmac roads to access the tiers.

Supermarket and Café

The complex is located at the centre of the park on the opposite side of the main road to Reception. A ramp suitable for wheel chair users takes you up over a step into a patio area with outside picnic tables. There is a well stocked Supermarket and Gift shop on one side and a Cafeteria with a Takeaway Shop on the other. They are wheel chair friendly in all areas and there is a disabled toilet in the café.

3 Rocks Inn

Situated with Cliff Top Sea Views and reached via a level tarmac road. The entrance is level and wide enough for wheel chair users. Once Inside there are 2 floor levels, the top level has a large area of free standing tables and chairs and the main bar. The Bar is 8 Meters long and 1.1Meter high, however at one end of the bar there is a section that has been lowered to 800mm high, the toilets are also situated on this level. A balcony overlooks the lower level.

The lower level has an even larger area of free standing tables and chairs with a stage against the bottom wall. This level has steps leading down to it but can also be accessed via a lift or from 3 outside entrances each 1.8 meters wide.

Pebbles Restaurant

The Restaurant is directly above the 3 Rocks Inn, it has an indoor dining area as well as an outdoor patio with superb views across the bay. A wide set of stairs lead up from the entrance foyer to the 3 Rocks Inn, or for wheel chair users, there is a lift also from the entrance foyer.

It can also be accessed via the Amusements Arcade which is separated from the Restaurant by a set of double fire doors 1.5 Meters wide. The toilets are also located in the Arcade.

Amusement Arcade

Located on the first floor of the entertainment complex, above the 3 Rocks Inn and next door to Pebbles Restaurant, our Amusement Arcade has a wide variety of Pool Tables, Video Game Machines, miniature Ten Pin Bowling, PC Internet Stations and a host of Arcade Machines. Entrance is via a metal bridge 1.5 Meters wide from the outdoor Adventure Playground or through a set of double fir doors from the Restaurant. Both are wheel chair accessible. As previously mentioned the toilets and disabled facilities are situated in the arcade.

Swimming Pool

Our indoor heated swimming Pool is located behind the main Entertainments Complex and is approached via a tarmac road. Entrance to the pool is ticket/pass controlled with free entry to all guests staying in our Static Caravan Holiday Homes. The water depth in the main pool starts at 0.6 Meters and rises to 1.5 Meters. Getting in and out of the pool is via hand railed ladders to both the shallow and the deep end. There is also a toddler’s paddling pool. Changing rooms, showers, toilets and secure lockers are all provided.

The pool entrance is suitable for wheel chair users; but the changing rooms are not, neither are there any disabled toilets within the pool area. This will be addressed within the next 2 years.

Adventure Play Park

Located next to the Entertainment Complex, our outdoor Children’s Adventure Play Park is open on all sides; it is built on a grassed sloping area with safety mats integrated under play equipment. There are 2 fenced in toddler areas within the play park.

Picnic benches are provided around the area.

Crazy Golf Course

Popular with all our guests, the Crazy Golf Course is situated alongside the main public car park. A wooden fence runs around 3 sides and access is via a wheel chair friendly footpath.

Launderette

The park launderette contains 5 Top Loading Washing Machines; each machine is 920mm high, 6 Tumble Dryers with 3 at floor level and 4 Ironing Boards 900mm high. The entrance is 800mm wide with a concrete ramp making it wheel chair friendly.

It is located 25 Meters from Reception.

Future Projects

1   As previously mentioned it is proposed to introduce wheel chair friendly facilities in the Swimming Pool Complex with the addition of Disabled Toilets and improved changing room facilities.

3   The shower blocks situated in the Tent/Touring Caravan Fields are to have improved family facilities.

4.   Beach Toilet facilities are planned to be in place within the next 2 years.
